Substance addictions such as alcoholism and cocaine addiction have been recognised for decades. Now, behavioural addictions such as gambling and gaming are also increasingly being treated by therapy.

Chemical dependency includes problematic use of alcohol or drugs. This can include illegal/street drugs or abuse of prescription medications.

Behavioural addictions include gambling, the internet, chatroom addiction, love, sex, pornography, self-harm, eating or limiting food intake, anger and shopping.

These obsessive-compulsive behaviours can have a profoundly negative impact on all areas of your life. This can include your ability to function on a daily basis.

This can cause damage to:

  • Your interpersonal relationships
  • Your performance at work
  • Your home or personal life
  • Your physical and psychological health.

As a highly skilled counsellor and psychotherapist, I have worked at a senior level in some of the UK’s foremost rehabilitation centres specialising in addiction treatment and care. I have a great deal of experience helping many individuals, couples and families use counselling and therapy to move forward and build the lives they have always hoped for.

Addiction Relapse Prevention

I can help you whether your issues are drug, alcohol or behavioural addictions,

There is a requirement to be abstinent from chemical substances when commencing therapy and I can signpost you or your loved one to a detoxification clinic if needed. My role would then commence once detoxed to work on relapse prevention and other deep-seated emotional issues.
